Are We Focusing Too Much on Mobile WebKit?

Peter-Paul Koch “shouts at web developers who think that delicately inserting an iPhone up their ass is the same as mobile web development.”

The article is full of other link-bait worthy quotes, but the basic point is worth discussing: Are web developers endangering the web ecosystem by coding specifically for mobile WebKit user-agents?

The blog focuses on the iPhone pretty heavily, but I think the problem is at a level higher than that… WebKit is seen as “the only mobile browser worth coding for” right now.

The Guardian’s Technology Blog has some further commentary about the quriksmode post.
