ITT: Someone Who Doesn’t Know About US Transportation Subsidies

Found this delightful comment on a story about the economics of high speed rail:

The New Jersey Turnpike tollroad system, to give one example, is completely self-financing and tolls are siphoned out of the system to subsidize loss-making choo-choos.

This seems to ignore subsidies to US consumers, auto companies, and metro agencies (that use buses) which in turn actually make the NJ Turnpike viable.
