Bill works for Microsoft Research and gave a talk to Boston CHI primarily on how sketching relates to interface design.
Sit back and enjoy a one and half-hour talk:
Bill has some harsh words about Apple products and their designs but before you grab your torch know that Bill says products like the iPod are worthy of the criticism. (He doesn’t even devote any time to talking about any other mp3 player other than saying the have much more horrible interfaces than the iPod.)
He makes an keen observation when it comes to managing a collection of classical music on an iPod. Basically, it sucks. The iPod and iTunes don’t do a good job of letting you filter/navigate music by composer for instance. The data is captured and one could easily work up a bunch of smart playlists to work around the problem but it is hardly intuitive. Isn’t Steve Jobs a huge classical music fan? One wonders why he puts up with it.
